How Do Classes Work?

What to bring to a Basic Rider Course

Each student must bring:
E-Course Completion Certificate
A Valid Driver's License / Learner's Permit
REQUIRED Riding Gear:
Long sleeved shirt / jacket
Long pants - Jeans or equivalent durable material (no sweatpants or workout pants, no holes)
DOT Approved Helmet (rentals can be requested during registration)
Eye protection (glasses, sunglasses, goggles, helmet visors)
Water, snacks, etc.
Full fingered gloves.

Do I need to have my own helmet?

Helmets are available to rent for class. Be sure to request one when registering for your course.

If I am late, can I make up what I missed?

Class starts promptly and all class activities must be completed per the curriculum. If you arrive late, you will not be able to continue in the class and will need to reschedule. We recommend arriving 30 minutes early.

Do we still have class if it rains?

Classes continue rain or shine. Please check the weather before your class and ensure you are properly prepared for any weather conditions.

Bring rain gear if rain is forecast. Layered clothing is recommended during the colder months.

Class exercises will be delayed during periods of heavy rainfall or if there is lightning.

Can I use my motorcycle for class?

Motorcycles for classes and lessons are provided by Cycle-Rite Motorcycle School.

If I decide not to participate in the class, can I get my money back?

Registration fees are non-refundable.

Can I take the course if I am under 18 years old?

Yes! Students must be at least 15 years, 6 months old and have a valid temporary driver's license to participate. Minor students must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waivers in order to participate in a class or lessons.

After Class Completion

Do I still need to go to the DMV after my class for my license?

Yes. Successful completion provides students with a road test waiver. Students must still take the written temps test at the DMV to receive their license. Students with current temps will not have to re-take the written test.

Will I receive an insurance discount if I successfully complete the course?

Many insurance companies provide a discount with proof of successful completion. We recommend checking with your agent or insurance company.

CAN I LEGALLY RIDE WITH MY COURSE COMPLETION CARD?

No. The course completion card is NOT a license to ride. It is proof of successful completion of the course and is a road test waiver.

What if I do not successfully pass the Skills Test?

Cycle-Rite offers retest options for students who do not pass the skills test during the course. Students can return to retake the course or to retake the skills test.
